The Glen Derwent Tea House recently hosted an historical play by the Derwent Valley Players. Glen Derwent's Liz Virtue said the Welcome to Van Dieman's Land by local actor-writer Sharon Hutchison was the second annual Regency House and garden party held in collaboration with Folk Federation of Tasmania. "The Derwent Valley Players did two performances of a short play written by Sharon Hutchison and directed by Vivienne de Bressac," Mrs Virtue said, "it was a marvellous day with guests dressed in regency attire. Regency inspired food provided by Glen Derwent Tea Rooms." ← Playright Sharon Hutchison Welcome to Van Dieman's Land is about an afternoon tea for the friends and neighbours of the Cullens, the original owners of Glen Derwent, to welcome the newly arrived Mr and Mrs Fenton from India. The Fentons were shocked by the saucy convict maids, the bushrangers who rob them and the constable and soldier who turn up to apprehend the villains. Mrs Virtue said the play portrayed a "a great welcome" for the Van Dieman's Land visitors. Glen Derwent Tea Rooms hosts many events, visit their Facebook page for the latest. | |
